Supporting public organisations in making forward-looking decisions. This can take the form of an advisory report, but thanks to AI and in-house coding, it can now also take the form of real-time tools and platforms. Three recent examples we are proud of.

Administrations and policymakers operate in a dynamic environment, where large amounts of information must be shared with stakeholders in a comprehensible manner. In the following projects, we developed interactive tools that quickly illustrate the consequences of different scenarios.

Entre-Sambre-et-Meuse National Park: Turning a socio-economic diagnosis into an exploration tool: our analysis of the development of this newly recognised National Park in Wallonia brings together a wide range of data and indicators developed and validated by researchers and experts from IDEA in cooperation with our partner Ecores and academia.

Rather than producing a static monitoring report, the project makes this knowledge accessible and usable via an interactive web platform for relevant stakeholders throughout the area, enabling territorial and thematic exploration of the indicators, navigation across the different dimensions of the analysis, visual layering of information and more direct access to data and insights

Federal funding simulator for police zones: together with the DULBEA research group (ULB), we worked on a new, scientifically underpinned model for calculating federal funding for local police zones. Subject to political approval, this will replace the existing KUL standard. A digital simulation tool was developed to provide real-time insight into the effects and impact of parameter choices on police capacity and the associated funding.

The Airport Balanced Approach: Public policy analysis combined with an interactive scenario-building tool to support the management of hindrances and disturbances at airports. Commissioned by the Belgian National Airport, IDEA is developing an interactive dashboard incorporating all relevant parameters relating to the negative spillover effects for residents living near the airport, which enables decision-makers to compare alternative scenarios, adjust assumptions and targets, and visualise the potential effects of different choices. This allows them to explore complex decisions independently, using an objective evidence base.
