
An Descheemaeker

An Descheemaeker joined Idea Consult in early 2025 as a territorial development expert. She has built up a broad expertise in sustainable spatial development, urban planning, mobility policy and participatory approaches. After obtaining her Master’s degree in Geography in 2002 and a Master’s degree specialising in Development Cooperation, she gained her first work experience at the urban organisation BRAL vzw. First as a spatial projects manager and then as a coordinator, she led several innovative projects, always in dialogue and collaboration with the government. She was responsible for the participation in the development of the Tour & Taxis land reserve in Brussels, the participatory measurement of air quality and the co-organisation of the Brussels States General.
From 2005 to 2009, she was active on the board of directors and as chair of the Community Land Trust Brussels, where she helped develop innovative housing projects in Brussels, each time in collaboration with the government, civil society and residents.
In 2009, An joined the City of Brussels as chief of staff to the alderman for Mobility. There she developed extensive experience in researching and implementing mobility solutions, including the introduction of new tram lines, bus lines, bicycle paths, parking policy and public space projects.
An has experience in analysing various spatial challenges, leading participatory processes to promote sustainable development and developing sustainable partnerships with public, academic, social and civil organisations.
