The Flemish UNESCO Commission (VUC) aims to build bridges between UNESCO and the Flemish government, civil society, and the academic and cultural world. This is no easy task: it requires a keen understanding of both the international UNESCO framework and Flemish policy priorities.

The challenge

IDEA Consult supported the VUC with a strategic study that mapped out this complex puzzle. We analysed where the VUC’s ambitions converge with the Flemish Coalition Agreement and the various policy documents. Based on this analysis, we formulated concrete, forward-looking recommendations that will help the VUC to respond to these areas of overlap in a targeted manner and with maximum impact in the coming years.

Approach & results

The result of the assignment forms the basis for a refined strategic multi-year plan for 2025-2028, with clear strategic priorities, operational objectives and outlines of concrete actions. This gave the VUC a future-oriented compass to further strengthen its role as a bridge builder in Flanders.
