Since the adoption of the new European reporting legislation around sustainability, sustainability initiatives are multiplying.

Sustainability is crucial for the future of our planet, society and organisations. Whether you are a local government, NGO, municipal corporation, public company or SME, the challenge remains: how do you take the first step towards sustainable impact amid countless initiatives and abbreviations (CSRD, ESG, SDG, ESRS…)?

Since the adoption of the new European reporting legislation around sustainability, sustainability initiatives are multiplying. Abbreviations such as CSRD, ESRS and ESG currently accompany the SDGs that are already more familiar to us.

ESG stands for “Environmental”, “Social”, and “Governance” and focuses on integrating sustainable and socially responsible practices into business operations. ESG criteria assess how a company contributes to environmental protection, social responsibility and good governance, which is essential for a sustainable future. ESG is a framework that focuses on the business world.

The SDGs, or Sustainable Development Goals, are 17 goals set by the UN that address global challenges such as poverty, inequality and climate change. This broader framework provides more scope for public sector activities. Europe’s new reporting legislation will also give ESGs their place within sustainable initiatives within the non-profit and public sector.

Since 2018, we have built experience around the SDGs, which now allows us to bridge to the ESG framework, without losing sight of the 2030 targets. Our new trajectories perfectly complement the existing pioneering trajectories we offer together with CIFAL Flanders.

We realise the need to contribute positively to the environment and society. Sir David Attenborough put it perfectly in 2022: “We know what the problems are and we know how to solve them. All we lack is unified action.” At IDEA Consult, we know that it takes a clear starting point to turn intentions into action. Without a starting point, people, but also organisations, do not take action.
