Natural innovation as a lever for tourism in Scheldeland

Natural innovation as a lever for tourism in Scheldeland

IDEA Consult assisted Tourism East Flanders, Tourism Province of Antwerp and Tourism Scheldeland in an intensive participatory process with over 300 public and private tourism partners. Research and exploratory sessions on the future of tourism in Scheldeland yielded fascinating new insights. All the ideas and ambitions gathered were incorporated into a strategic plan for 2020-2025.

Tourism East Flanders and Tourism Province of Antwerp have opted for a streamlined approach based on a powerful future perspective in which the sustainable development of and access to the destination, the exceptional nature and remarkable heritage are central. The strategy bears witness to a vision of the future that goes beyond tourism and experience. It is a view of the future that relies on meaning and visitors.

The strategic plan portrays the image of Scheldeland as a cultural and landscape park in development. The innovative development of river nature will increasingly appeal to visitors and residents (including city dwellers). The valleys of the Scheldt and the Dender will still be in transition for a while. The rivers also connect tourist cities with the hinterland. And Scheldeland’s wealth of cultural heritage can be further explored and capitalised. Attracting and professionally accompanying visitors to this cultural and landscape park is key to the strategy. The strategic plan provides a clear perspective and guidance for challenges along the way.
