Feasibility study on the implementation of the principles for Innovative Doctoral Training in Europe

IDEA Consult has managed the study on the implementation of the Innovative Doctoral Training Principles in Europe. In this study, we assessed  the degree and methods of implementation in several institutes all over Europe and identified their best practices.

The aim of the study was to come up with recommendations to improve and clarify the principles and to further promote their implementation.

First, a gap analysis of existing studies was carried out with the purpose of focusing the data collection to complementary information mainly. Next, in collaboration with Cheps (University of Twente) and a network of thematic and country-specific experts, information on implementation and best practices was gathered through 18 2-day visits to European research institutes and 36 telephone interviews. To facilitate the quantitative and qualitative analyses, questionnaires, reporting templates and interview guidelines were provided to the interviewers.
