Commissioned art in public space - a mapping study

In this study IDEA Consult maps the diverse landscape of commissioned art in public space in Flanders: the (non-artist) actors involved, the role(s) they play, the motivations to invest in art in public space, the types of art being integrated in public spaces, etc. We also look at existing instruments including the role of ‘Platform Kunst in Opdracht’ of the Flemish government in stimulating and supporting the development of art in public space in Flanders. Based on the analysis we develop recommendations to further strengthen art in public space in Flanders.

The outcome of the study is based on desk research, interviews with experts, an online survey among (non-artist) stakeholders involved in art in public space and focus group discussions with experts and stakeholders.
