Tiago Pereira

Tiago Pereira started working at IDEA Consult in March 2023 as a Consultant in the Innovation, Competitiveness and Sustainability (ICS) team.

Prior to joining IDEA, Tiago worked 6 years for the European Commission, DG Research and Innovation, initially as a programme assistant for the Research Fund for Coal and Steel (RFCS) and after as a statistician in the Unit of the Chief Economist. Tiago was in charge of collecting and analysing R&I data and indicators, with extensive experience in patent and bibliometric data. He co-authored two important flagships publications of DG R&I “Science, Research and Innovation Performance of the EU” reports (editions 2020 and 2022). And he managed several projects with external contractors, such as the project to produce the European Innovation Scoreboard.

Tiago is an economist by training, having studied in Portugal and Belgium. He holds a MSc in Applied Economics from the Economics School of Louvain, in Louvain-la-Neuve. He wrote a thesis on the effect of developing countries’ competition on regional labour markets in Portugal. 

Tiago speaks Portuguese, his mother tongue, English and French.
